After years of teaching fitness, as well
as my own personal regimen of running and cycling, yoga was a revelation.
My body, which I thought to be very fit, was stretched and strengthened
in ways I never imagined. I was instantly captivated and over the
last 7 years have worked hard developing my own personal practice.
During this time I was very fortunate to work with many great teachers
and in 2003 received my teaching certification from the Downward
Dog Yoga Studio in Toronto.
It was here that I first met Christine Felstead and experienced her work first hand with "yoga for runners". Developed specifically for the tighter athletic body, Christine's classes have made the "yoga experience" available to a whole segment of the population who might never have thought to venture into a yoga studio. Through this program, yoga becomes not only accessible, but also a great compliment to whatever sport you pursue.
I believe most people intuitively know that increased flexibility not only improves performance but also goes a long way in helping to prevent injuries. All sports tend to develop tight muscles which can lead to imbalances in the body. A yoga practice can and will work to reverse these effects. No other form of exercise comes close to yoga for developing strength and flexibility both concurrently and alternatively. Having realized the benefits of yoga on my own body, I look forward to working with other athletes, to experience again the benefits that come from introducing even a small amount of yoga into a routine.
Maintaining the full range of motion in our joints, as well as the length in our muscles and spine, is what will keep us active and body-youthful into our eighties. It is a wonderful thing to be "fit", but being fit and flexible is the key to staying young.

Description:
A series of 75 minute classes where participants gain knowledge
about functional anatomy as it relates to the impact of running.
The foundations of yoga are used to bring awareness to the structural
and muscular imbalances caused by repetitive strain on the specific
muscles and joints used in running. Each week has a specific body
emphasis and leads to the development of an individualized post-run
routine.
